Auburn Early Education Center standardizes on SMART Board interactive whiteboards
Five-year-old students provided greater learning opportunities through use of technology
CALGARY, ALBERTA --- October 23, 2006 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces that Auburn Early Education Center (AEEC) has standardized on SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards and has installed them in every classroom. Five-year-old students in this public, Title I school in Auburn, Alabama, use SMART Board interactive whiteboards to learn how to read, write, tell stories and take photographs. Teachers use interactive whiteboards to work with digital learning materials, scanners and other technology equipment. They also conduct Internet searches in class and use digital cameras to document instruction. Assistive technology is provided for students with special needs.

AEEC teachers noted that students have responded to their SMART Board interactive whiteboards with excitement and increased interest in classroom activities. The product has also resulted in improved student learning outcomes and greater collaboration among teachers. Some parents have even commented that their children now want a SMART Board interactive whiteboard at home. AEEC administrators are committed to incorporating new technology in classrooms with the view that working with technology is part of everyday life and technological literacy is a skill all students should have.
“All of our teachers wanted a SMART Board interactive whiteboard when they first heard about them. They were brainstorming ideas on how they could incorporate them into daily instruction before the boards even arrived,” says Dr. Lilli Land, principal at AEEC. “After seeing this technology in use, I have had parents and teachers comment that they would like to go back to kindergarten.”
“Auburn Early Education Center is exposing kindergarten children to technology that helps them become successful learners,” say Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “Starting them early lays an important foundation for success throughout school.”
